Permits may be granted to allow access to roads otherwise closed to motor vehicles at a given time.
Please note that at least 2 working days must be allowed when applying for such a permit.
The Department will consult the respective Local Authority along with other relevant agencies, or officers about your application before issuing any consent.
Please note however:
-
Permits will not be granted in disc zone areas. The correct procedure for such requirements is to attend the Vehicle Testing Centre in Tromode and purchase a book of ‘Tradesman’s Access Permits’. These are scratch off cards and are available for £60 for a book of 10.
-
A permit will only be issued to commercial vehicles which are registered for business use and liveried (whether permanent or by way of magnetic signage.)
-
Permits may be granted for vehicles being used in order to raise funds for a specific named charity on that day and in that location.
-
Permits do not and will not provide permission to park on a footway or areas marked with double yellow lines in any area.
-
Similarly permits will not be granted to park in excess of the time permitted on loading bays, nor under any circumstances in Disabled Parking Bays.
-
If granted a permit will be emailed to you in pdf format for you to print. A condition of grant is that this permit must be displayed in a prominent position within the windscreen area of the vehicle at all times whilst parked in the location applied for.
-
The Department reserves the right to revoke any permit that has been granted at any time if the Department deems it necessary. This may include a condition of the permit has been breached.
Reasons why an application may fail
-
The permit is required to park in a disc zone. The correct procedure for such requirements is to attend the Vehicle Test Centre in Tromode and purchase a book of ‘Tradesman’s Access Permits’. These are known as scratch cards and are available for £60 for a book of 10.
-
The Local Authority and / or other Agencies/Officers object to your request.
-
The request for a permit is due to a ‘Tradesman’s Access Permit’ having been refused for failing to meet its criteria.
-
The vehicle applied for is not registered to a Trade, or Charity, or on loan to that Charity.
-
The grounds for the necessity have not been made out in the application; for example, why any tools and / or materials cannot be unloaded during an unrestricted period; or it appears that the permit is to facilitate a parking place convenience as opposed to a work site necessity.
-
The relevant vehicle does not have a valid vehicle licence.
-
The request is to facilitate parking on a loading bay, disabled parking bay, footway or double yellow lines.
