Information on the COVID-19 vaccination ahead of your appointment

Like all other medicines and devices, the COVID-19 vaccinations have been granted regulatory MHRA approval to ensure it is safe and effective. The vaccine cannot give you COVID-19 infection, and two doses will reduce your chance of becoming seriously ill. Further Information on the Isle of Man COVID-19 vaccination Programme and more general information about the vaccine can be viewed at gov.im/covidvaccination

Indications are that some vaccine recipients may experience a painful heavy arm where they had the injection and may feel tired or have a mild fever for a couple of days. These are common side effects following vaccination. If required paracetamol may help to reduce these effects and keep you as comfortable as possible following vaccination.

In order that you are fully informed before deciding to register for a vaccination, please read the product information for more details on the vaccine at MHRA's Yellow Card website.

Should you suffer, or suspect you are suffering side effects, you may report these on the same website or by downloading the Yellow Card app.

What to expect at your appointment

You will be required to comply with the current COVID-19 requirements, applicable at the time of your attendance, face coverings and social distancing may still be required at the time of your appointment.
If you have travelled with a carer or relative, then they may, if social distancing and space allow, help you into the vaccination centre and through the process. However, should the centre be particularly busy we may ask your carer/relative to wait in their vehicle or outside the centre. A member of staff will be available to help you through the process.

On arrival you will be met by a member of the team who will discuss the process with you and will confirm your consent to be given the vaccine.

At the vaccination centre, the consent process will be fairly short, once you have provided consent, you will be taken to a vaccinator who will administer the vaccine in your upper arm, either left or right, that’s your choice.

It is important that the vaccinator has easy access to your upper arm of choice, so could you please ensure that you wear a short sleeved loose fitting top, e.g. a short sleeved T Shirt or similar, there is limited privacy available at the vaccinations sites.

Your vaccinator will provide you with a card identifying the date of your first vaccination, the vaccine type and batch number, along with the time and date of your second vaccination, we would ask that you ensure you leave your consent form either with the vaccinator or the Admin team at the site.

You must be able to provide consent yourself and a relative cannot provide consent on your behalf. Please contact your GP directly if you or your family member wish to discuss consent.
